DePaul Track & Field Compete in Iowa State Classic



CHICAGO – After taking a week off to get some rest and rejuvenation, the Blue Demon men’s and women’s track team travel to Ames, Iowa, to compete in the Iowa State Classic.  Iowa State will host one of the top indoor track meets in the nation on February 11th and 12th at the Lied Recreation Center.

 

During the two-day meet, thirty men's and women's teams and over 1,000 athletes from all over the country will be participating.  The DePaul squads will face some of their toughest competition of the indoor season this weekend.

 

The women's weight throw will kick off the meet at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and the men's 200-meter dash will be the last event of the day. On Saturday, competition begins with the men's 3,000-meter run and field events will start with the women's triple jump at 11:30 a.m. The last event of the meet will be the men's 4x400-meter relay scheduled for 6:20 p.m.

 

The Blue Demons intend to continue the success from the Notre Dame Invitational on January 29th, where the squads totaled two first place wins, and five second place spots.

 

The women were lead by Jamie Holifield, who won the weight throw with a 15.77 meter toss, along with the women’s 4x400 meter relay team of Marissa Petersen, Erica Scott, Allyson Petersen, and Courtney Grand Pre.  The group sprinted to a 3:58.53 first place finish.

 

On the men’s side, Larry Inanga, Dan Branca, and Rashard Deleston paced the team with second place finishes in individual events, while the men’s 4x400 meter relay team of Kriss Arnold, Inanga, Richard Fugiel, and Branca followed with a silver as well.

Additionally, members of the men’s and women’s teams not participating in the Iowa State Classic will partake in the Carthage College Pepsi Challenge.  This meet will be held in Kenosha, Wis., and will begin at noon.

 

Following the Iowa State Classic and Carthage College Pepsi Challenge, the Blue Demons head to Romeoville, Ill., to continue the indoor campaign at the Chicagoland Championship. The women will face the competition on Friday, February 18th, while the men’s meet will take place on Saturday, February 19th.
