Track and Field Wraps Up Iowa State Classic

AMES, Iowa – The DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams closed out their second and final day of competition at the Iowa State Classic on Saturday.  The meet, at the Lied Recreation Athletic Facility, saw junior Tammy Burris post her sixth BIG EAST Championship qualifying shot put performance of the season.

 

Burris notched a distance of 12.98m to place 33rd of 64 throwers in the women’s shot put.  Holifield followed with a throw of 12.40m to take 45th overall.  Friday’s action saw both Blue Demon throwers post BIG EAST qualifying performances in the weight throw.

 

Freshman Terah Cheatham posted a time of 10:32.99 in the women’s 3,000m run.  She finished 51st out of 77 runners in her second-best 3,000m race of the season.

 

The meet concluded on Saturday evening with the women’s 4x400m relay.  Junior Allyson Petersen joined with sophomores Kyra Coffey and Jessica Rodriguez to pass the baton with freshman Kaaydah Nangle.  The squad recorded a time of 4:02.24 to place 35th out of 44 teams.

 

No team scores were kept at the meet that included talent from Arkansas State, Indiana State, Kansas State, Missouri, Wichita, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

 

The Blue Demons compete with the best of their conference next weekend at the 2007 BIG EAST Indoor Championships in Akron, Ohio.  The meet runs Saturday, February 17 and Sunday, February 18 at the University of Akron Fieldhouse.
