Four Represent DePaul At Chicagoland Championships

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The DePaul women's track and field team sent four competitors to the Chicagoland Championships in Naperville, Ill., on Friday evening.
The meet, which featured athletes from 17 different schools, was hosted by North Central College.
Corinne Franz, MaShayla Kirksy, Gabrielle Howard and Ashley Holden each competed in events for the Blue Demons. Franz registered a toss of 11.68 meters in the weight throw to take 18th out of 31 competitors. In the 60-meter hurdles, Ashley Holden posted a PR of 9.32 seconds to take fifth, while Kirksy won the long jump with a jump of 5.73 meters, a career best. Kirksy bested 36 other athletes to take the heat. Kirksy also placed fourth in a triple jump thanks to a season-best jump of 11.06 meters.
Howard took third in the triple jump (11.32m) and seventh in the long jump (5.19m).
"It was a pretty good day overall," said head coach Dave Dopek. "This meet served as a nice tune-up for these ladies."
Tomorrow, Matt Babicz of the men's track and field team will represent the Blue Demons at the Fred Wilt Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind.
Both the DePaul men's and women's track and field teams will be in action next week (Feb. 21-22) at the BIG EAST Championships in Armory, N.Y.
