Sullivan, Knight Lead Blue Demons at Chicagoland Championships
Romeoville, Ill.--The men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed in the Chicagoland Indoor Championships this past weekend finishing in the top half of the field. The women finished sixth out of 14 team with 50 points, while the men's team, who finished with 43.50 points, placed seventh out of 16 teams.
On the women's side, junior Katie Sullivan who improved her own school record in the high jump with a first place jump of 5'06.00. Sophomore Shelley Knight was victorious in the 800 meter with a season-best time of 2:21.72. Knight was followed by sophomore Leah Rygh who finished fourth in the event posting a time of 2:24.21. The Blue Demons were well represented in the weight throw with three throws landing in the top five. Senior Montia Gardner finished second (53'01), junior Susan Stoffel was third (49'02.50) and junior Megan Greeley finished fifth (46'03.25).
The men were led by senior Carey Ryan who posted a new school and personal record with a throw of 68'11.25 in the weight throw. Ryan led the field while junior Jarrod Jahnke finishing second with a throw of 52'09.25. Senior Andrae McPherson placed third in the 55 meter high hurdles with a season-best time of 7.74 and junior Salvador Andrade finished fourth in the 400 meter with a time of 50.93.
Both teams will travel to Bloomington, Ind. to compete in the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships running from February 23-24.
