Day-One of BIG EAST Championship Wraps Up for DePaul


AKRON, Ohio- The DePaul track and field teams wrapped up day-one of the BIG EAST Indoor Championship Saturday at the University of Akron Field House


Freshman Gabe Harris recorded a 49.08 in the men’s 400m to take sixth place in the preliminaries.  The mark was his second best time of the season and qualified for Sunday’s 400m finals at 1:10 p.m.


In the men’s 200m, freshman Patrick Smith set a personal-best time of 22.31, the best 200m from a Blue Demon this season. 


The women’s 200m preliminaries saw freshman Stephanie Williams set a team season-best time of 25.47.


Senior Lindsey Deason kicked off the day for DePaul, scoring a 3147 in the women’s pentathlon, eclipsing her previous school record of 3078.  She finished 12th overall.


In addition to the men's 400m finals, Sunday will see the Blue Demons compete in eight events, beginning with juniors Jamie Holifield and Erika Lockhart in the women’s shot put at 11:35 a.m.  Seniors Kaylah Burks and Webster Jones will follow in the women’s and men’s high jumps. 


Junior Anthony Becknek will run the men’s 3,000m at 2:00 p.m. and the day will close out with men’s and women’s 4x800m relays and 4x400m relays.
