Three Top-Ten Finishes Highlight Day Two of the BIG EAST Championships



NEW YORK The DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams walked away with three more top-ten finishes from Mary Cate Quiett, Patrick Smith, and the men’s 4x400m relay team.  The men’s team finished in 10th place with 19 points, while the women’s squad placed 16th overall.

Smith improved upon yesterday’s  performance to place sixth overall with a new career-best time of 48.56.  Elvis Lewis of Villanova took the top prize with a time of 47.89.

 

In the 800m finals, Quiett placed fifth with a time of 2:12.92.  Clarrise Moh of Seton Hall finished in first place with a time of 2:09.56.

The 4x400m relay team of Gabe Harris, Gilbert Lifton, Erik Felt, and Smtih lowered their season-best collaborative performance with their fifth place time of 3:16.46.

Kelly Pickering, Toni Salvatore, Quiett, and Erin Lakie ran the 4x800m relay in team-best time of 9:28.47.

 

Ebonie Cobb bettered her season-best throw in the shot put with a distance of 12.96m, while Alanna Kovacs had a throw of 12.93m.  The duo placed 14th and 15th, resepectively.  In the men’s shot put, Jim Theologes placed thirteenth with a throw of 14.25m.

 

Joe Strawder rounded out the Blue Demon performances for the day with his thirteenth place triple jump of 14.25m.

 

Connecticut swept both the mens’ and women’s team competition.

 

DePaul returns to action on March 6-7 for the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.  The event marks the final indoor competition before the NCAA Indoor Championships.
