Women's Track and Field 10th After Day One

HOUSTON – Following the first day of the 2004 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Blue Demons stand in 10th place.  Erin Moffett was the top finisher in Friday’s action with a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run.

Erin and Carrie Moffett placed in the top six in the 5,000-meter run.  Erin finished second in a time of 17:07.77 while Carrie was sixth in 17:32.86.  Mary Kinyanjui of TCU won the event in a time of 17:02.34.

In the 800-meter dash prelims, Leah Rygh qualified for Saturday’s final with a time of 2:15.33.  That time was the third-best mark of the four qualifying heats.  Bente General of USF notched to top time of 800 prelims with a mark of 2:13.76.

Diana Runnels qualified for Saturday’s 400-meter dash final with a time of 57.01.  Her time was fifth among the seven qualifying flights.  TCU’s Larissa Bakasa posted the top time on Friday at 55.42.
