Track and Field Sends Four Student-Athletes to the Alex Wilson Invitational
CHICAGO Select members of the DePaul track and field squad travel to Notre Dame, Ind. to compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational. The competition is one of the final “last chance” meets in the country and takes place in the Loftus Sports Center. Athletes from across the country are given this “last chance” to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships, to be held March 13-14.
Events get underway on Friday, March 6 at 4 p.m. (CST) Joe Strawder is slated to compete in the long jump. The junior most recently placed fifth at the BIG EAST Conference Indoor Championship with a personal-best distance of 7.47m. This mark missed the NCAA qualifying standard by less than 1.25.”
At 5 p.m., Brad Millar looks to earn his second NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw. Millar set a new personal record in the event two weekends ago at the league championships. He placed second with a throw of 19.64m to surpass the standard of 19.50m
On Saturday, Mary Cate Quiett looks to qualify for her first NCAA Indoor Championship in the 800m. The sophomore currently holds the school record in the event with a time of 2:11.34, while her season-best performance stands at 2:12.03. Race time is scheduled for 11:45 p.m.
Stephanie Williams gets her final chance in the 200m at 1:15 p.m. The senior looks to shave half a second off of her personal-best time to meet the provisional standard of 23.90.
