Track and Field Sends Three to Alex Wilson Invitational



CHICAGO Three members of the DePaul women’s track and field team compete this Saturday at the Notre Dame Alex Wilson Invitational.  Claire Duck, Mary Cate Quiett and Stephanie Williams represent the Blue Demons at the Loftus Center in Notre Dame, Indiana.

Quiett opens the meet for DePaul at 11:55 a.m. (CST) as she enters the women’s 800m run.  The Blue Demon freshman broke a DePaul record this season on the Loftus Center track when she posted an 800m time of 2:11.34 at Notre Dame’s Meyo Invitational.  The 2007-08 indoor campaign has also seen Quiett post DePaul records in the 600m run, 1,000m run, 4x800m relay and distance medley relay.

Stephanie Williams races for the Blue Demons at 12:40 p.m. when she joins the women’s 200m dash.  Williams’ notched a personal-best 200m time of 22.49 at the BIG EAST Championships, which stands 0.05 seconds away from Sherri Bean’s 1988 DePaul record of 24.44.

The Blue Demons conclude competition at 12:50 p.m. when Claire Duck races in the women’s mile run.  The DePaul senior enters the event with a season-best time of 5:01.09 and a personal-best race of 4:54.15.  Duck’s last mile race on the Loftus Center track saw her post a time of 5:02.00.

The Alex Wilson Invitational is one of many “Last Chance” meets being held across the nation this weekend as teams and individuals aim for NCAA Indoor Championship qualifications.  The 2008 NCAA Indoor Championship runs March 14-15 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
