Track And Field Kicks Off Outdoor Season in Charlotte

CHICAGO -- The DePaul track and field teams return to action this weekend when they begin their 2014 outdoor season at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C.
The event begins Friday (March 21) and concludes the next day.
The Blue Demons capped their 2014 indoor season with a third place finish at the BIG EAST Championships on the men's side and a fifth place finish on the women's side. DePaul won a total of six conference championships at the competition.
In addition, Matt Babicz qualified for the Indoor National Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., in the shot put competition. Babicz earned second team All-American honors in New Mexico last weekend.
The Charlotte 49ers track and field program hosts the 17th annual 49er Classic in the confines of the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center. The 2014 49er Classic is the largest in the history of the event with 46 teams and 1,300 runners on both sides.
The Classic will kick-off on Thursday, March 20, at 11 a.m. with the heptahlon followed by the decathlon. Both events will take place on Thursday and go into Friday morning.
The three-day meet will see the majority of the action on Friday and Saturday with running events starting at 1 p.m. on Friday and moving into the night. Field events will start on Friday mid-day with the women's hammer throw at 11 a.m.
The prelims for short sprint events will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday with the finals for those events taking place on Saturday.
