Cherrington and Guzman Place First at UNC Classic

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Aaron Cherrington and Frank Guzman opened the outdoor season with a pair of first-place finishes to lead the men’s track and field team to a fifth-place finish at the UNC Classic.  Cherrington won the 400-meter dash while Guzman set a school record in the shot put.

Guzman’s toss of 17.73 meters passed his own school record of 17.60 set last year at the Lee Calhoun Invitational.  He also placed eighth in the discus.  Cherrington won the 400-meter dash with a time 49.08 while Albany’s Aggrey Morris was second at 49.12.

Jarrod Jahnke finished the meet with two top eight finishes in the hammer throw and shot put.  In the hammer throw, he was fifth and placed eighth in the shot put.  Andrae McPherson (110-meter high hurdles), Siddiqu Muhammad (400-meter int. hurdles) and Larry Vonckx (3,000-meter steeplechase) finished second in their respective events and Kim Trieu added a third-place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.  Other top finishers for DePaul included a sixth-place by Donnie Warner in the 3,000-meter run and an eighth by Kai Murray in the 800-meter run.
