Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season
CHICAGO The DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams open their 2008 outdoor campaign this weekend at the Texas-Arlington Bobby Lane Invitational and the University of Chicago Ted Haydon Invitational. The Blue Demons compete on Friday and Saturday at Maverick Stadium and on Saturday at the Ted Haydon Track. Bobby Lane Invitational The Blue Demons resume competition on Saturday at 9 a.m. when Fraser enters the women’s javelin throw. Millar follows at 11 a.m. in the men’s javelin throw, while at the same time Joe Strawder takes on the men’s long jump. Saturday’s field events also place DePaul in the women’s and men’s discus and women’s shot put before Strawder closes the action at 3:30 p.m. in the men’s triple jump. Claire Duck opens DePaul’s competition on the track at 2:10 p.m. in the women’s 1,500m run. Duck is also set to race in the women’s 800m run at 4:25 p.m. when she is joined by Maureen Kuhta, Allyson Petersen and Mary Cate Quiett. The 2007 Bobby Lane Invitational saw Duck notch a DePaul record with an 800m time of 2:11.60. The Blue Demons enter the men’s races at 3:35 p.m. when Kwaku Attoh and Gabe Vargas join the men’s 100m dash. Kyra Coffey follows at 4 p.m. in the women’s 400m dash before Richard Fugiel, Gabe Harris and Patrick Smith represent DePaul in the men’s 400m race at 4:10 p.m. Competition at Maverick Stadium concludes with the women’s and men’s 4x400m relays beginning at 7:15 p.m. The Blue Demons are also set to race in the women’s and men’s 200m dash and women’s 100m dash. Ted Haydon Invitational Track events get underway at 1 p.m. as Michael Fry and Greg Udzielak race in the men’s 1,500m run. Lauren Bales and Jessica Rodriguez follow in the women’s 400m dash before Jamil Chammas, Nathan Rajiv and Z Stein take on the men’s 400m dash. DePaul wraps up the Ted Haydon Invitational with the women’s and men’s 5,000m races. Stephanie Hughes and Reda Josifi represent the Blue Demons in the women’s 5,000m run, while Jakub Kolacz, Luke Rygh and Nick Schaefer enter the men’s 5,000m run. The Blue Demons are also set to compete in the men’s and women’s 100m dash, men’s and women’s 200m dash, women’s 800m run and men’s pole vault.
