Blue Demons Open Outdoor Season With Strong Performances

CHICAGO Select members of the DePaul track and field squad competed today at the Viking Classic hosted by North Park University.  The women placed third with 91 points, while the men tallied 48 points for sixth place.

Ivy Moffett finished first in the 100m, with a time of 13.84 and Brittney Lewis clocked a time of 14.17 for third.  Gabe Vargas was the top finisher for the Blue Demons in the men’s sprinting events, placing second in the 200m with a time of 23.75

Meredith Klein earned her first top finish in the 400m hurdles, recording a time of 1:09.26.  Lauren Bales finished two spots behind her, with a time of 1:15.11.

Distance standout Jakub Kolacz clocked a time of 15:44.91 to finish first in the 5,000m.  In the women’s 5,000m, DePaul placed four runners in the top-five.  Claire O'Brien won the race with a time of 19:16.48, while Stephanie Hughes finished just behind her in second with her time of 19:22.95.  Kelsey Dolan and Stacey Schmitz finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

The men’s squad added 10 points to its team total with a first place finish in the 4x400m relay.  Matthew Holland, Z Stein, Daniel Steinfels, and Rob Morgan collectively posted a time of 3:35. 59.

Next up, the Blue Demons travel West Lafayette, Ind. on April 4 for the Mike Poehlein Invitational hosted by Purdue.
