Track and Field to Compete at Bobby Lane Invitational and Mike Poehlein Invitational



CHICAGO – The DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams continue their 2007 outdoor track and field campaign this weekend at the University of Texas-Arlington’s Bobby Lane Invitational and Purdue’s Mike Poehlein Invitational.  The Blue Demons compete on Friday and Saturday at Maverick Stadium in Arlington, Texas and on Saturday at the Rankin Track in West Lafayette, Indiana.

 

Bobby Lane Invitational

Friday’s action in Texas features the men’s and women’s hammer throw beginning at 2 p.m. (CST).  Tammy Burris and Jamie Holifield enter the women’s event, while Brad Millar represents DePaul in the men’s event.  All three Blue Demon throwers recorded BIG EAST qualifying hammer marks at last weekend’s Southern Illinois Classic.

 

Competition resumes on Saturday at 11 a.m. when Joe Strawder enters the long jump and Millar returns for the javelin throw.  Both Blue Demons opened their season on a high note last week – Millar broke DePaul’s 57-year-old javelin record with a BIG EAST mark of 54.74, and Strawder posted a qualifying long jump of 7.05m.

 

Burris and Holifield enter Saturday’s events at 1 p.m. in the women’s shot put.  Burris broke the DePaul shot put record last week with a qualifying throw of 13.46m.  Both throwers finish their weekend with the women’s discus at 3:30 p.m.

 

Claire Duck opens Saturday’s track events for the Blue Demons at 2:10 p.m. in the women’s 1,500m run; a race she won last week at Southern Illinois with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 4:33.52.

 

The meet concludes at 7:15 p.m. with the women’s and men’s 4x400m relays.

 

The Blue Demons also compete in the women’s and men’s 200m dash, women’s and men’s 400m dash, women’s 100m dash, women’s 800m run, men’s 1,500m run, men’s 400m hurdles, men’s triple jump and men’s discus.

 

Mike Poehlein Invitational

Virginia MacFabe and Sarah Polensky open Saturday’s meet at Purdue at 8 a.m. (CST) in the women’s hammer throw.  Curtis Hoag and Ian Ianakov immediately follow in the men’s hammer throw.  Both MacFabe and Ianakov posted BIG EAST qualifying marks in the hammer throw at last week’s season opener.

 

The Blue Demons enter the track events at 11:30 a.m. with the men’s 5,000m run.  Jeremy Applebaum, Anthony Becknek, Jakub Kolacz and Luke Rygh represent DePaul in the race.

 

Eoin Dunne joins Becknek in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase at 4:15 p.m.  Both Blue Demons broke through the BIG EAST qualifying time of 9:34.24 last week.

 

The meet wraps up at 4:30 p.m. with the women’s and men’s 4x400m relays.

 

DePaul also competes in the women’s and men’s 100m dash, women’s and men’s 200m dash, women’s and men’s 800m run, women’s and men’s 1,500m run, women’s and men’s 100m hurdles, women’s and men’s 400m hurdles, women’s and men’s shot put, women’s and men’s discus, women’s long jump, women’s triple jump, women’s 4x100m relay and men’s 400m dash.
