DePaul Track & Field at Elmhurst College Invite

After a select squad competed in the outdoor opener last weekend, the entire Blue Demon team gears up for the Elmhurst College Invite this Saturday.

CHICAGO – In the second meet of the outdoor season, the entire Blue Demon track and field squad will take part in the Elmhurst College Invite on Saturday, April 2. The field events will start off the competition, beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by the races at 11:00 a.m.

DePaul hopes to build on the strong start last weekend at the Raleigh Relays. Richard Byrne, Gavin Kennedy, Anthony Becknek, and Jamal Cornelious were the only members of the DePaul men’s team in competition.

Byrne championed the unseeded division of the 5000 meter run, taking first place with a time of 14:53.95. Kennedy notched a seventh place finish overall in the 1500 meter run at 3:53.85. Becknek, DePaul’s final long distance runner, recorded a 9:27.05 time in the 3000 meter steeplechase, good for 11^th place.

Cornelious sprinted the 100 meter dash in 11.16, grabbing the 28^th spot out of nearly 80 opponents.

Following the Elmhurst College Invite, the Chicagoland Championships are next up for the Blue Demons. The meet takes place April 7-9 in Naperville, Ill.
