Track and Field Breaks Records and Posts BIG EAST Marks in Texas
Complete Results ARLINGTON, Texas – Claire Duck set a new DePaul record in the 800m run on Saturday as the men’s and women’s track and field teams closed out two days of competition at the University of Texas-Arlington’s Bobby Lane Invitational. The Blue Demons posted 10 BIG EAST Championship qualifying performances at Maverick Stadium.
Duck notched a time of 2:11.60 in the women’s 800m run to break Leah Rygh’s 2003 record of 2:13.37. The Blue Demon junior placed sixth in the event and was followed by Allyson Petersen, who finished 10th with a time of 2:13.70. Both runners eclipsed the BIG EAST qualifying time of 2:13.9.
DePaul opened the weekend on Friday with three BIG EAST qualifying marks in the men’s and women’s hammer throw. Tammy Burris placed second in the women’s hammer throw with a distance of 51.39m, while Jamie Holifield followed in fourth place with a throw of 47.33m. Both throwers eclipsed the qualifying standard of 45.12m. The men’s hammer throw saw Brad Millar take sixth place with a 51.37m throw. He exceeded the qualifying standard of 43.40m.
On Saturday, the Blue Demons picked up where they left off by recording three more qualifying performances in field events. Joe Strawder placed third in the men’s long jump as he cleared a distance of 7.18m and surpassed the qualifying standard of 6.80m. Millar threw the javelin 54.34m to earn sixth place and exceed the qualifying distance of 54.00m. Burris took 14th in the shot put with a 12.85m throw. She broke through the qualifying mark of 12.50m.
DePaul earned two more qualifying performances in Saturday’s track events. Stephanie Williams posted a time of 12.11 in the women’s 100m dash. She finished 15th and eclipsed the qualifying time of 12.30. Duck finished third in the women’s 1,500m run with a time of 4:32.34, surpassing the qualifying time of 4:38.2.
No team scores were kept at the meet.
