Brad Millar Named BIG EAST Conference Field Athlete of the Week

CHICAGO Two-time BIG EAST Conference hammer throw champion Brad Millar was named Field Athlete of the Week by the league today.  The prize was given after his performance at the Bobby Lane Invitational hosted by Texas-Arlington, and is a program first.

In his opening appearance of the outdoor season, Millar recorded an NCAA-qualifying mark in the hammer throw with a distance of 62.42m. While finishing third overall, he was the highest placing attached competitor.  The junior currently ranks No. 14 on the NCAA descending order list for the hammer throw.

Last season, Millar took home his second BIG EAST crown.  He recorded a hammer throw distance of 58.22m to capture DePaul’s third conference title since joining the league in the 2005-06 season.

Also taking home BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week honors was Jasmine Cotten of Cincinnatti.  Georgetown’s Lauren Gregory and Daniel Nunn, as well as Cincinnati’s Antione Drakeford were all named the league’s Track Athlete of the Week.

Millar and the Blue Demons return to action on Friday, April 3 when they compete in the Mike Poehlein Invitational hosted by Purdue.  The hammer throw takes place on Friday afternoon while the rest of the events commence on Saturday.
