Erin Moffett Leads Women's Track and Field
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Erin Moffett led six Blue Demons finishing in the top five at Saturday’s Notre Dame Spring Opener. She placed second in the 3,000-meter run while Dee Moore and Marlene Key posted third-place finishes. It was the second outdoor meet of the season for the women’s track and field team.
Moffett was second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:56.72. Notre Dame’s Stephanie Madia won the event with a time of 9:52.94. Her time set a new DePaul record, breaking the mark of 9:59.20 set in 1992 by Alison Grosset.
In the 200-meter dash, DePaul place a pair of student-athletes in the top five with Moore taking third and Mary Hodges placing fifth. Moore posted a time of 24.7 while Hodges clocked a mark of 25.3.
Other top finishers for the Blue Demons were Key, DaShara Wells and Tammy Burris. Key was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:36.59 while Wells took fourth in the triple jump at 10.62 meters. Burris led the DePaul throwers with a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 12.61 meters.
Up next for DePaul is the Chicagoland Championships at North Central College. The two-day meet takes place Friday and Saturday in Naperville, Ill.
