Scott, Burks, and Holifield Lead Blue Demon Track & Field
CHICAGO – An impressive showing by the Blue Demon women’s track and field squad led to a fourth place finish at the Elmhurst College Invite this past weekend. The meet held in Elmhurst, Illinois, was the second meet of the outdoor season that DePaul competed in. The women posted three individual titles as well as seven second place finishes overall.
Erica Scott, Kayla Burks, and Jamie Holifield took home top spots in the 400 meter dash, high jump, and hammer throw, respectively.
Scott recorded a 1:00.45 finish, followed by her teammate LaShunta Sanders, who grabbed the second place spot in 1:00.92. Kayla Burks continued the success from her first outing at the Raleigh Relays by winning the high jump with a 1.65m (5’5.00”) leap.
Holifield was victorious in the hammer with a 46.16m (151’5.00”) toss and Jeana LeRoy took the silver at 39.51m (129’7.00”). LeRoy also scored a second place finish in the discus throw with a 36.78m (120’8.00”) launch.
In the 100 meter dash, Mary Hodges sprinted to a second place finish in 13.29. Marissa Petersen, Erica Scott, and Allyson Petersen found the same success notching second place spots. Marissa Petersen and Scott tied in the 200 meter dash at a time of 26.38. Allyson Petersen covered the 800 meter run in 2:21.25.
