Track & Field to Compete at Marquette Duals Friday
April 3, 2014
CHICAGO -- Less than a week after competing in cold and rainy conditions at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational in Louisville, Ky., the DePaul track and field teams make the short trip north to Milwaukee, Wis., for the Marquette Duals, where the weather forecast is once again calling for rain and temperatures in the low-40s.
The four-team dual features the Blue Demons, Marquette, Milwaukee and UIC. It will begin Friday.
Despite last weekend's treacherous weather in Louisville, DePaul put together several strong individual performances, including Mac Melto's win in the 400-meter dash and Matt Babicz's victory in the shot put.
Five additional Blue Demons finished in the top-five in track events, including Tayler Hynes (5,000), Rebecca Adamcheck (400-meter hurdles), Ashley Holden (400 Hurdles), Jackie Kasal (Steeplechase) and MaShayla Kirksy (Long Jump).
In the field events, Sarah Moss took third in the women's discus, while Trevor Kintyhtt placed fifth in the discus on the men's side. Anthony Babicz finished fourth in the shot put, three spots behind his brother, Matt.
"Due to the elements, high-end performances were few and far between," head coach Dave Dopek said after the meet. "We still were able to put in some quality effort though, even if some of the times don't necessarily show it. This meet was all about putting in the work."
The Marquette Duals will begin Friday morning and conclude later that same day. It is DePaul's first one-day outdoor meet of the season.
