CHICAGO – After a long spell away from the city, the DePaul track and field team returns to Chicago this weekend for the Chicagoland Championships on Friday and Saturday. Hosted by the University of Chicago, the competition kicks off with the women’s hammer and javelin throws at 1 p.m.

Friday’s competition is primarily women’s events. Throws standouts Melissa Fraser and Alanna Kovacs are set to open the meet with the javelin throw. In each of DePaul’s first two competitions during outdoor season, Fraser has taken home first place in the javelin while Kovacs has finished in second and third. Fraser is also scheduled to compete in the hammer throw along with DePaul freshman Jazmyne Durrah.

Aside from the opening throws, other field events on Friday include women’s long jump, triple jump, shot put, and discus. On the track, freshman Ayesha Ewing will take on the 100-meter dash at 2:45 p.m. and the 200-meter at 5:20 p.m. Lindsey Holden, who is also set to compete in the 400-meter dash at 4:25 p.m., is schedule to run the 200-meter alongside Ewing.

Kelly Pickering, Danielle Hernando, and Jacqueline Kasal take on the women’s 1,500-meter at 3:45 p.m. before Loreal Curtis, Holden, and Elizabeth Jefferson compete in the 400-meter dash. Just before 5 p.m., Kasal and Alexandra Muller will race in the 800-meter. Muller has found success in the event in her recent meets, including a fifth-place finish at last weekend’s Oliver Nikoloff Invitational.

Both the 400-meter hurdles and the 5,000-meter run will have five Blue Demon women on the blocks. In the hurdles, sophomore Rebecca Adamcheck joins senior Kelcie Daniels and freshman Ashley Holden (who will have competed in the long jump earlier in the day) in the race. In the 5,000-meter, freshman Taylor Hynes will compete alongside sophomore Hannah Pulliam and senior Erin Lakie to conclude the women’s events.

Saturday begins the men’s portion of the Chicagoland Championships. Once again, throws kick off the day as freshmen duo Anthony Babicz and Adam Kovacs open with the men’s hammer throw. The men’s shot put is scheduled for 11 a.m. with Anthony Babicz, Matt Babicz, and senior Tim Nedow competing. Nedow has yet to compete in the shot put during outdoor season after earning a trip to the NCAA indoor championships in the same event in March.

The hammer and shot are followed by the high jump and then the javelin before the discus starts at 2:30 p.m. to conclude the field events.

For DePaul, freshman Jordon Vaughn starts the running events at 12:45 p.m. with the 100-meter trials. Eddie McDaniel, Ian Sanchez, and Max Rodrigues follow with the men’s 1,500-meter before Drew Edwards, Zack Gaskell, and Tonderai Tomu compete in the 400-meter dash.

After winning the men’s 800-meter last weekend, sophomore Chris Miedema will look to repeat that feat just before 3 p.m. Max Clink and Lucas Junk are also set to run in the event. The 200-meter follows at 3:40 p.m. with Joe Mason, Robert Davis, Jr., and Vaughn participating.

The day and the competition conclude that evening with the 4x800-meter relay (Sanchez, Junk, McDaniel, Miedema) and the 4x400-meter relay (Mason, Gaskell, Clink, Tomu) thereafter.
