Track and Field Gear up for a Full Weekend
CHICAGO The DePaul men’s and women’s track and field s squads gear up to compete in three meets this weekend. A portion of the team travels to Tempe, Ariz. for the Sun Angel Track Classic hosted by Arizona State, while a portion remains in Chicago for the Chicagoland Championships. In addition, Mary Cate Quiett, Kelly Pickering, Alana Kovacs, Jim Theologes, and Brad Millar are slated to pull double-duty, competing in the Mesa Classic after finishing their events at the Sun Angel Track Classic. The 30th Annual Sun Angel Track Classic boasts squads from 33 different schools in addition to several professional and unattached athletes. Action begins at 2 p.m. (CST) on Friday, April 10 with the men’s and women’s hammer throw. Millar most recently placed third at the Mike Poehlein Invitational with an NCAA Regional qualifying throw of 59.77m. The Blue Demon runners get underway when Quiett and Pickering head over to Mesa Community College to run in the 400m. Millar, as well as fellow throwers Theologes and Cobb are scheduled to throw discuss and the hammer. The remaining DePaul women travel to cross-town rival University of Chicago for a full day of competition beginning Friday at 3:00 pm. The field events kick-off the meet, followed by the running events. The men follow the same schedule the following day, beginning at 11:00am. The Sun Angel Classic resumes on Saturday at noon, beginning with the remainder of the throwing events.
