Split-Squad: Track and Field to Compete in Tempe, Romeoville
April 10, 2014
CHICAGO -- DePaul University will send track and field athletes to both the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz., and the Chicagoland Championships in Romeoville, Ill., this weekend.
The events mark the first time this outdoor season that DePaul will compete at multiple events over one weekend.
Lewis University will host the Chicagoland Championships, while Arizona State University will serve as the host for the Sun Angel Classic.
The Blue Demons have competed in three outdoor meets this season, all of which featured less than ideal weather conditions, including the Marquette Duals last weekend, where the temperatures never reached 40 degrees.
"We are getting in some great work but the weather is just not cooperating with us at present time," head coach Dave Dopek said last week in Milwaukee. "When mother nature gives us a break in the weather we will have to be prepared to take advantage."
DePaul should get that much-needed weather break this weekend. Temperatures are projected to soar into the 90s this weekend in Tempe, while 70-degree temperature is scheduled for this weekend in Romeoville.
Despite the poor playing conditions, the Blue Demons have put together a solid spring. Last weekend at Marquette, Matt Babicz won the shot put and discus competitions, tossing a career-best 18.59 meters in the shot put. In addition, Jackie Kasal won the 1,500 and Chaz Bottoms took home the 400-meter dash.
Full coverage of the weekend's competitions will be available at DePaulBlueDemons.com following the conclusion of each day's events.
