Track and Field to Compete in Southern California



CHICAGO- Select members from the DePaul track and field teams travel to Los Angeles this week for the 48th annual Mt. SAC Relays and Long Beach State Invitational.  The Relays will be held Thursday through Saturday at Mt. San Antonio’s Hilmer Lodge Stadium with the heptathlon taking place at Azusa Pacific University’s Cougar Stadium. Meanwhile, Long Beach State will host its invitational on Friday at Jack Rose Track.

 

Coming off a second place heptathlon performance at last week’s Chicagoland Championships, Lindsey Deason opens competition for DePaul in the multi-event Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. (PCT.)  The first day of heptathlon events will feature the 100m hurdles, the high jump, the shot put, and the 200m dash.  Deason will conclude the multi-event on Thursday morning with the long jump, javelin and 800m run.

 

The rest of the Blue Demons will open their Mt. SAC events on Thursday afternoon, beginning with Kyra Coffey in the women’s 400m dash followed by Rich Fugiel and Gabe Harris in the men’s 400m dash.  Allyson Petersen is slotted for the women’s 800m run at 2:00 p.m. before Dan Branca takes on the men’s 800m run.

 

Anthony Becknek and Richard Byrne will close out Thursday in the men’s distance events.  Becknek is scheduled to run the 3,000m steeplechase at 5:00 p.m. followed by Byrne in the men’s 1,500m run at 6:20 p.m.

 

Friday will send most of the Blue Demons to Long Beach State while throwers Tammy Burris and Jamie Holifield stay at Mt. SAC for the hammer throw.

 

Becknek and Byrne kick off the Long Beach State Invitational, taking on the men’s 1,500m run.  They will be followed by Erik Felt and Patrick Smith in the men’s 110m hurdles.  The LBS Invitational wraps up for DePaul at 3:25 p.m. as Carrie Moffett runs in the women’s 5,000m.

 

The Blue Demons will also compete at the LBS Invitational in the men’s and women’s 400m dash, the women’s javelin throw, the men’s 800m run, the men’s 400m hurdles, and the men’s and the women’s 200m dash.

 

On Saturday, the women’s 4x100m relay team of Mary Hodges, Kyra Coffey, Jessica Rodriguez and Stephanie Williams will conclude the Mt. SAC Relays as they try to keep their winning streak alive.
