Mt. SAC Relays Results

 

Long Beach State Invite Results

 

LOS ANGELES- Personal best marks were notched and BIG EAST qualifications were met as select members of the track and field teams competed across Southern California this week.  DePaul athletes participated Wednesday through Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays, Long Beach State Invitational, and California Invitational Heptathlon.

 

Senior Lindsey Deason opened competition for the Blue Demons, taking on the heptathlon at Azusa Pacific University’s Cougar Stadium Wednesday and Thursday.  She placed 20th overall in the multi-event, notching a personal best score of 4321.

 

The 48th annual Mt. SAC Relays started Thursday at Mt. San Antonio College’s Hilmer Lodge Stadium.  Freshman Gabe Harris posted a solid performance for the Blue Demons early in the day, finishing seventh in the 400m dash with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 48.33.

 

Sophomore Allyson Petersen followed Harris with a personal best time of 2:15.46 in the 800m run.  In the men’s 800m run, sophomore Dan Branca delivered a team season best time for DePaul with a mark of 1:58.10.

 

Late in the day, junior Anthony Becknek recorded a qualifying time of 9:23.20 in the 3,000m steeplechase while Richard Byrne closed out events with a mark of 3:57.96 in the 1,500m run.

 

Friday took most of DePaul’s athletes to Long Beach State’s Jack Rose Track, where competition conflicted with rainy conditions.  Meanwhile, sophomore Tammy Burris and junior Jamie Holifield stayed at Mt. SAC for the women’s hammer throw.

 

Holifield placed ninth in the hammer throw, hitting her best distance this season with a mark of 49.32m.  Burris followed in 12th place with a throw of 48.33m.

 

Byrne kicked off the day at Long Beach State, posting a season best time of 3:57.20 in the 1,500m run.  Freshman Stephanie Williams took third place and recorded a team season best time of 25.37 in the women’s 200m dash.  Harris hit a time of 22.24 in the men’s 200m dash for the third time this season to take seventh place.

 

Junior Carrie Moffett finished the Invitational by taking second place in the women’s 5,000m with a time of 18:02.02.

 

No team scores were kept in any of the competitions.

 

The Blue Demons will return to action April 27-29 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. and the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
