Blue Demons Host DePaul Invitational This Weekend
April 19, 2012
CHICAGO, Ill. – For the first time in 2012, the DePaul track and field team is set to compete on its own turf as the Blue Demons host their second-annual DePaul Division I Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Lane Stadium.
DePaul looks to finish on top for the first time this season as it plays host to Northwestern, UIC, the University of Chicago, and Chicago State this weekend. The meet begins on Friday with just two events – the high jump and javelin throws for both men and women. Javelin is set to kick off at 4 p.m. CST, followed by high jump at 4:30 p.m.
Saturday is full of action as events kick off at 10 a.m. and are scheduled to go through 3 p.m. Field events begin at 10 a.m. with the men’s hammer throw and continue successively thereafter. The track portion of the day starts at 11 a.m.
Saturday will also serve as DePaul’s senior day. The Blue Demons are set to hold a senior day ceremony at 10 a.m. that will recognize 13 DePaul seniors who have either competed in track and field, cross country, or both.
This year’s graduating class includes a trio of the most successful throwers in DePaul’s history—Tim Nedow, Alanna Kovacs, and Melissa Fraser. Each have made their mark in the Blue Demon record book. The 2012 class also includes cross country and distance standout Matthew Graham who has taken four first-place finishes already during the 2012 outdoor season and holds several of DePaul records of his own. Saturday also honors the contributions of nine other Blue Demons—Dennis Baliga, Brian Begalke, Kim Boisvert, Kelcie Daniels, Kelsey Dolan, Erin Lakie, Claire O’Brien, Kelly Pickering, and Dan Steinfels—who have all found success in their time at DePaul as both students and as athletes.
