Burks Earns Fourth Individual Title

CHICAGO - The Blue Demon women’s track and field team competed at the Central Collegiate Championship in Champaign, Illinois, on Saturday.  The group came out with a sixth place finish overall by putting up a total of 37 points.

DePaul competed against a field of 13 teams, as Illinois State University came out on top with 192 points.

A highlight of the events included a first place finish in the high jump by Kayla Burks, her fourth individual title of the season.  Burks cleared a height of 1.67m (5’05.75”) and has won all but one competition she has participated in as a Blue Demon.

Also in the field, Lindsey Deason grabbed the fourth place spot in the javelin throw, making a launch of 31.95m (104’10.00”).  This marked a DePaul best in the javelin throw for the 2005 outdoor season.

Jamie Holifield came in fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 47.98m (157’5.00”).  A fifth spot was also taken by Emily Prettyman in the 5000 meter run who endured the distance in 19:04.26.

Carrie Moffett set a personal season best in the 1500 meter run, posting a 4:48.22 finish for seventh place.

DePaul gets set to partake in three different meets this upcoming weekend.  The 111th Penn Relays will take place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the 96th Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, over April 28-30.  The North Central Invite is the closest meet and will be held on April 29 in Naperville, Illinois.
