Track and Field Enters Drake Relays, Marquette Twilight
CHICAGO With the BIG EAST Conference Championships just a week away, the DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams continue their outdoor campaign at the 99th annual Drake Relays and the Marquette Twilight Invitational. The Blue Demons compete Thursday through Saturday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa and on Saturday at the Melvin "Bus" Shimek Track & Field Facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
DePaul resumes competition on Friday at 9:48 a.m. with the men’s 4x100m relay preliminaries. Kwaku Attoh, Gilbert Lifton, Patrick Smith and Gabe Harris are set to pass the baton for the Blue Demons. The foursome notched a season-best time of 42.80 on April 5 at the Chicagoland Championships.
Kyra Coffey, Mary Cate Quiett, Allyson Petersen and Stephanie Williams continue Saturday’s races at 3:25 p.m. in the women’s 4x400m relay preliminaries. They will be followed immediately by the men’s 4x400m relay trials, where Richard Fugiel joins Lifton, Harris and Smith.
Friday’s evening session places the Blue Demons in the men’s 4x200m relay at 6:40 p.m. and the women’s 4x800m relay at 7:40 p.m. Maureen Kuhta joins Duck, Quiett and Petersen in the women’s 4x800m race, while the men’s 4x200m relay features Gabe Vargas with Lifton, Attoh and Smith.
Melissa Fraser represents DePaul in Friday’s field events when she takes to the women’s javelin throw at 2 p.m. The Blue Demon freshman carries five throws this season better than the NCAA Regional qualifying standard of 43.45m.
DePaul closes out the Drake Relays on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. when Brad Millar competes in the men’s hammer throw. Millar boasts four throws this season greater than the NCAA Regional qualifying standard of 55.60m.
Marquette Twilight Invitational
Tammy Burris and Virginia MacFabe enter the women’s hammer throw on Saturday with a combined seven marks greater than the BIG EAST Championship qualifying standard of 45.12m. Both Blue Demons are joined by Ebonie Cobb in the women’s discus throw. Saturday also places Cobb in the shot put.
Luke Rygh and Darrick Thompson open Saturday’s track events when they race in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase. Stephanie Hughes follows in the women’s 1,500m run before Greg Udzielak joins the men’s 1,500m race.
The Blue Demons are also set to compete in the women’s and men’s 100m dash, women’s and men’s 5,000m run, women’s and men’s long jump, women’s 800m run, women’s triple jump and men’s pole vault.
