Track and Field to Compete in Pennsylvania, Iowa, Indiana



CHICAGO- The track and field squads split up to compete at three meets in three states this week.  Athletes will compete at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Stan Lyons Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind.

 

The Penn Relays take place Thursday at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field, the Drake Relays run Friday and Saturday at Drake University Stadium, and Saturday’s Stan Lyons Invitational is held at the IUPUI Track Stadium.

 

Becknek takes on the Penn Relays 3,000m steeplechase Thursday at 7:00 p.m. (EST).  He enters the race with season best time of 9:23.2 which he set at the Mt. SAC Relays.

 

On Friday, the women’s 4x100m relay team of Mary Hodges, Kyra Coffey, Jessica Rodriguez, and Stephanie Williams kicks off the Drake Relays at 9:24 a.m.  The squad has won two races this year and set a season best time of 48.31 at the Chicagoland Championships.

 

The remainder of the day in Des Moines features the men’s 4x400m and 4x200m relays.  Donnie Smith, Patrick Smith, and Gabe Harris will pass the baton on both teams.  They will be joined in the 4x400m race by Richard Fugiel and in the 4x200m event by Jamal Cornelious.

 

The Drake Relays conclude Saturday morning.  Allyson Petersen joins Hodges, Coffey, and Williams for the sprint medley relay at 10:01 a.m. while Tammy Burris finishes the competition in the hammer throw at 10:30 a.m.

 

The week wraps up Saturday night at the Stan Lyons Invitational with the men’s and women’s 5,000m.  Jeremy Applebaum, Brian Godar, and Ryan Solomon are scheduled for the men’s race while Kelly Cunningham, Emily Prettyman, and Colleen Stiles-Shields run the women’s event.
