Track and Field to Compete at Drake Relays and Illinois State Invitational

Drake Relays Jeremy Applebaum and Jakub Kolacz open the Drake Relays for DePaul as they enter the men’s 10,000m run on Thursday at 4:45 p.m. Applebaum recorded a team-best 10,000m time of 31:32.11 earlier this month at the Chicagoland Championships.
The Blue Demons return to competition on Friday at 9:30 a.m. with the women’s and men’s 4x100m relay preliminaries. Mary Hodges, Kyra Coffey, LaShunta Sanders and Stephanie Williams enter the women’s race, while Donnie Smith, Gabe Vargas, Gabe Harris and Piotr Lewkowski enter the men’s relay.
DePaul continues Friday’s action at 3:25 p.m. when Allyson Petersen and Erica Scott pass the baton with Coffey and Sanders in the women’s 4x400m relay. The quartet holds a season-best time of 3:53.64. The men’s 4x400m relay follows at 3:55 p.m. when Gilbert Lifton and Richard Fugiel join Harris and Vargas. The foursome boasts a season-best time of 3:20.23.
Harris, Lifton, Vargas and Smith close out Friday’s events with the men’s 4x200m relay at 6:40 p.m.
The Blue Demons open Saturday’s events at 9:25 a.m. in the women’s sprint medley relay; Claire Duck joins Williams, Sanders and Petersen in the race.
DePaul wraps up competition on the track when Anthony Becknek enters the men’s 3,000m steeplechase at 1:35 p.m.
Saturday’s field events place DePaul in the women’s and men’s hammer throw. Jamie Holifield and Tammy Burris enter the women’s event at 9:30 a.m. Both Blue Demons have six throws better than the BIG EAST standard of 45.12m. Brad Millar takes on the men’s event at 2:15 p.m. Millar has twice thrown better than the NCAA Regional qualifying standard of 55.60m.

Redbird Invitational Joe Strawder opens Saturday’s competition at the Redbird Invitational at 11 a.m. in the men’s long jump. The DePaul freshman has broken the BIG EAST standard of 6.80m in four meets and holds a season-best mark of 7.18m. Strawder also competes in the men’s triple jump at 1:30 p.m.
Virginia MacFabe represents DePaul in the women’s discus throw at 11:45 a.m. and the women’s shot put at 1 p.m. Her season-best discus mark of 39.19m lies just shy of the 40.00m BIG EAST qualifying standard.
Curtis Hoag takes on the men’s shot put at 11:45 a.m. and the men’s discus at 1 p.m. The freshman carries three BIG EAST qualifying throws in each event.
Terah Cheatham and Carrie Moffett open Saturday’s track events at noon with the women’s 5,000m run, while Scott Cooper, Nick Schaefer and Greg Udzielak close out the day in the men’s 800m run. The Blue Demons also compete in the women’s 100m dash and men’s 400m dash.
