Brad Millar, Joe Strawder, and Stephanie Williams Post Top-Five Finishes

VILLANOVA, Pa. Brad Millar, Joe Strawder, and Stephanie Williams all recorded top-five finishes on the final day of the BIG EAST Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  Overall, the women tallied 16 points to tie for 15th, while the men placed 13th with 20 points.

Millar, a two-time hammer throw conference champion, narrowly missed the three-peat by two-tenths of a meter.  His throw of 58.59m was edged by Jeff Mensch, who hit a distance of 58.79m.  Both marks give the competitors NCAA qualification marks.  Virginia MacFabe placed 11th in the women’s hammer throw with a distance of 45.93m.

Stephanie Williams placed fourth in the 200m after clocking a time of 24.21.  Yesterday in the prelims she had a near-school record breaking time of 24.01 to also finish the day in fourth place.  The senior holds the school record with a time of 24.00.

Joe Strawder took a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 14.76m.  Yesterday the junior placed seventh in the long jump after traveling a distance of 7.12m.

Mary Cate Quiett placed sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:10.63.  In the men’s 400m race, Gabe Harris clocked a time of 49.07 to finish in seventh.  Erik Felt tallied a team point with an eighth place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.59.

Louisville won the women’s title with 138 points while the Notre Dame men posted 130.50 points to take home the crown.

The Blue Demons return to action on May 9 for the Chicago Penultimate.  The meet, as well as May 15’s Cardinal Twilight will be the last change opportunities for the student-athletes to qualify for the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships.
