CHICAGO- The DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams travel to Philadelphia, Pa. for the 2011 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. The meet is hosted by Villanova and will be held at the Jumbo Elliott Track. The meet gets underway Friday with the DeCathlon at 10 a.m.

First to represent the Blue Demons, Melissa Fraser and Alanna Kovacs compete in the hammer throw at 11 a.m.

Coach Dopek had this to say about this weekend’s competition, “This weekend looks to be a good weekend for us. The team has really been coming on strong as of late. Recent performances have given us the belief that many of our qualified athletes will perform well.”

Women's BIG EAST Championship Qualifiers

Melissa Fraser- Hammer Throw, Javelin
Fraser is the reigning BIG EAST Champion in the Javelin and is looking to win it for the third time in her career.

Alanna Kovacs- Shot Put, Hammer Throw, Discus, Javelin
Kovacs has qualified for all four throwing events, she currently has the nation-leading distance of 54.88m in the Javelin.

Kelcie Daniels- 400m Hurdles
Daniels looks to improve on her season-best time of 1:02.71 in the 400m Hurdles that she ran at last weekend’s Stan Lyons Invitational.

Lindsey Holden- 200m Dash, 400m Dash
Holden scored in the 2011 BIG EAST Indoor meet with a school-record time of 55.83 in the 400m and shea has improved all season long.

Stephanie Hughes- 10,000m Run
Hughes looks to improve on her season-best time of 36:55.12 in the 10,000m run that she ran at Raleigh Relays.

Elizabeth Jefferson- 400m Dash
Jefferson has looked better and better as the season has progressed.

Mary Cate Quiett- 800m Dash
Quiett is making an end of the season push and looks to add an Outdoor BIG EAST Championship to the indoor championship she won last season.

Toni Salvatore-1500m Run
Salvatore finished sixth in miles at this season’s BIG EAST Indoor Championships.

Men's BIG EAST Championship Qualifiers

Matthew Graham-3,000m Steeplechase, 5,000m
At last year’s BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, Graham finished third in 3,000m steeplechase with a school-record time of 8:51.48. At this year’s BIG EAST Indoor Championship Graham also finished third in 3,000m run.

Tim Nedow-Shot Put, Discus
Nedow was the 2011 BIG EAST Indoor Champion in the shot put. In the BIG EAST, he is currently ranked first in the shot put and second in the discus.

Edin Pasalic-400m Dash
Pasalic ran a career-best time of xxxx in last weekend’s 400m dash. He hopes to be competitive in his last conference meet as a Blue Demon.

Tonderai Tomu-400m Dash
Tomu finished third at this year’s BIG EAST Indoor Championships. He is currently ranked second in the 400m in BIG EAST.
