STORRS, Connecticut- The track and field squads closed out their inaugural BIG EAST Outdoor Championships Sunday at the University of Connecticut’s George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.  The women’s team finished 16th overall with nine points while the men’s team scored no points.

Junior Jamie Holifield highlighted the final day of competition as she took fourth place in the women’s hammer throw to score five points for DePaul.  She reclaimed her old school record with a throw of 55.49m, which surpassed the record of 53.08m that teammate Tammy Burris set at the Chicagoland Championships on April 6.  Holifield’s throw meets the NCAA Regional qualifying distance of 54.15m.  Blessing Egwu of St. John’s won the event with a throw of 58.53m.

On the track, the women’s 4x100m relay team of junior Mary Hodges, freshman Kyra Coffey, freshman Jessica Rodriguez, and freshman Stephanie Williams finished eighth overall.  Their time of 47.51 marks a season best performance and earned the Blue Demons a point in the standings.  Pittsburgh won the event title with a time of 45.68.

Junior Donnie Smith, freshman Patrick Smith, freshman Gabe Harris, and sophomore Richard Fugiel closed out the weekend for DePaul in the 4x400m relay.  They delivered their second best performance of the season with a time of 3:17.06.  The squad finished 12th in the event while Villanova won with a time of 3:09.64.

Championship team titles went to Pittsburgh’s women, who scored 117 points, and Notre Dame’s men, who totaled 132 points.
