Kennedy Shatters School Record

CHICAGO – The Blue Demon men’s track and field squad garnered impressive performances from members at both the Wisconsin Twilight and Butler Twilight this past Saturday.

The Wisconsin Twilight was hosted by the University of Wisconsin and took place at the Dan McClimon Memorial Track.  The meet featured a number of state and regional teams, marking the final weekend of competition before the Conference USA Outdoor Championships.

Gavin Kennedy acted as the only DePaul representative in the meet, streaming through the 1500 meter run in 3:48.23 to break the 21-year old school record.  Jim Dzwierzynski held the honor since 1984, with a time of 3:49.14.

Kennedy’s sixth place finish beat his previous best of 3:49.80, but was merely two hundredths of a second shy of the NCAA qualifying time.

On Saturday at the Butler Twilight, a group of six Blue Demons competed at the Michael A. Carroll Track & Field Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Dave Boduch and Rashard Deleston proved to be the best on the day, notching first place finishes in the javelin throw and the long jump, respectively.

Boduch threw a winning launch of 52.08m (170’10”), clearing his previous season best by nearly three meters.

Deleston soared 6.81 meters to champion the jumping event.

In the 200 meter dash, Donnie Smith was the top DePaul finisher, claiming 10th place with a time of 22.36.  Mark Kliethermes grabbed the same honors, taking the 13th spot in the 100 meters with an 11.32 finish.  Both student-athletes marked personal and season bests in their respective events.

Participating as an unattached athlete, former Blue Demon standout Larry Inanga kept to winning form with a first place finish in the 200 meter dash.  Inanga crossed the line in 21.39.

Up next for DePaul is the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  The team will travel to Houston, Texas, to compete on May 12-14 at the University of Houston.
