Track and Field to Compete at Dr. Keeler Invitational

CHICAGO- The track and field teams are set to compete at the Dr. Keeler Invitational this Thursday and Friday in Naperville, Illinois.  The meet, hosted by North Central College, provides DePaul athletes their final chance to qualify for next week’s NCAA Mideast Regional.

Juniors Jamie Holifield and Tammy Burris open the competition in the women’s hammer throw at 11:00 a.m.  Holifield already met the regional qualifying standard in the event at last week’s BIG EAST Championships with her school record throw of 55.49m.  Following the hammer throw, Burris and Holifield compete in the women’s discus.

DePaul’s distance runners come out Thursday evening for the 5,000m and 10,000m events.  At 7:30 p.m., freshmen Jeremy Applebaum, Brian Godar, and Rob Morgan compete in the men’s 5,000m.  They are followed by juniors Kelly Cunningham, Emily Prettyman, and Colleen Stiles-Shields in the women’s 5,000m.  Freshman Ryan Solomon closes the day in the men’s 10,000m at 10:00 p.m.

Friday’s competition begins at 4:30 p.m. as Burris and Holifield throw the women’s shot put.  Holifield looks to improve on a season best mark of 12.86m in the event.

The evening sees Maureen Kuhta kick off track competition in the 1,500m run.  She is followed by Erik Felt in the 400m hurdles.  The day closes with Anthony Becknek in the 3,000m steeplechase.

DePaul is also scheduled to compete in the women’s 400m dash and men’s 800m run.

The Blue Demons are joined in competition by squads from DePauw, Cornerstone, North Park, Benedictine, and Ohio Wesleyan.
