Blue Demons Wrap Chicago Penultimate
CHICAGO The DePaul men’s and women’s track and field squads wrapped up the Chicago Penultimate with five first-place finishes. Stephanie Williams, Kelly Pickering, Stephanie Hughes, and Joe Strawder all topped the leader board in their respective events.
Williams got things started with a first place finish in the 200m with a time of 24.37. Additionally, she finished at the top of her heat in the 100m after clocking a 12.02, while Brittany Lewis placed fifth overall with a time of 13.28. Lewis went on to place fourth in the long jump behind a distance of 4.93m
In the men’s sprints, Gabe Harris placed second with a time of 22.32. Jamil Chammas and Matt Holland crossed the line in the 400m at 51.88 and 51.91, respectively.
Joe Strawder topped the field in both the long jump and the triple jump. He recorded a long jump distance of 6.80m, and a triple jump distance of 14.88. Cynthia Edwards set a new personal-record in the women’s triple jump after clearing a distance of 11.10m.
Kelly Pickering finished first in the 800m behind a time of 2:21.44. On the men’s side, Rob Morgan finished in fifth place with a time of 1:56.72 and Daniel Steinfels crossed the finish line at 2:01.77 to place 12th overall.
Stephanie Hughes led the Blue Demon distance runners, after posting a personl-best time of 37:48.16 in the 10,000m race. Jakub Kolacz was the top finisher for the men, placing second in the 5,000m with a time of 15:22.68. Kelsey Dolan and Stacey Schmitz both posted personal-record times in the women’s 5,000m.
Mary Cate Quiett added the 400m to her race repertoire today and recorded a time of 57.93. Laura Wilson finished just behind her with a time of 1:02.65.
James Waller increased his personal-best in the discus throw after hitting a distance of 41.02m. Virginia MacFabe led the women throwers with an eight place finish in the hammer throw after recording a distance of 46.69m
The squads return to the track one last time on Fri. May 15 for the Cardinal Twilight in Louisville, Ky.
