Cardinal Twilight Schedule (EST)

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Less than week after several Blue Demons topped the podiums at the BIG EAST Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the DePaul track and field squad is on the road once again. Eleven student-athletes are scheduled to compete in Friday’s Cardinal Twilight Invitational hosted by Louisville.

The meet opens with the event that saw the most DePaul success last weekend—the javelin. On the men’s side, freshman Adam Kovacs is on the starting list for the Blue Demons. Kovacs, who had finished in second at the BIG EAST finals in the event, looks to top his career-best distance and earn an NCAA qualifying mark.

On the women’s side, four-time BIG EAST javelin champion Melissa Fraser is set to compete alongside second-place finisher Alanna Kovacs. The senior duo has finished one-two on four separate occasions during the 2012 outdoor season.

Following the javelin, which opens at 9 a.m. CST, are the remaining field events. The men’s shot put will see another pair who finished one-two at the BIG EAST Championships in Matt Babicz and Tim Nedow. Last weekend, Babicz captured his first-ever shot distance of over 18 meters in outdoor competition to seal first place. Nedow finished just behind Babicz with a 17.87-meter throw en route to his second BIG EAST Most Outstanding Field Performer title.

The Cardinal Twilight running events are scheduled to take place later in the evening. DePaul’s first event is the 400-meter dash. Junior Lindsey Holden is set to run for the women while Tonderai Tomu represents the DePaul men. The rolling schedule then sees freshman Jordon Vaughn in the men’s 100-meter dash, sophomore Chris Miedema in the 800-meter, and freshman Ayesha Ewing in the 200-meter before Jacqueline Kasal closes out the meet in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase.

This weekend’s success serves as the determinant for the NCAA West Preliminaries in two weeks in Austin, Texas.
