Blue Demons Close Regular Season in Chicago, Louisville and Atlanta
CHICAGO - The men's and women's track and field programs make the most of their final weekend of competition before the NCAA Championship Preliminary Rounds on May 28-29 by competing in three different meets on May 14-15. Action begins with the Cardinal Twilight and Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday, and continues on Saturday with the Chicago Penultimate and day two of the Georgia Tech Invitational.
The throwers invade Louisville, Ky. on Friday, beginning with Melissa Fraser and Alanna Kovacs in the javelin throw at 9 a.m. (CST) The duo ranks 15th and 16th, respectively, in the Div. I West Region-well within the top-48 that earns a bid to the NCAA Championship Preliminary Round. Fraser and Kovacs are also slated to compete in the hammer throw, while Kovacs is entered in the shot put and discus. On the men's side, 2010 BIG EAST Conference Champion Brad Millar is well on his way to a fourth-consecutive NCAA postseason appearance in the hammer throw. Earlier this week, Millar measured a personal-best throw of 66.19m at DePaul Relays. The senior has dominated the event all season long, and ranks sixth in the West Region, and 14th in the nation. Rounding out action at the Cardinal Twilight is Matt Babicz and Tim Nedow, who are set to compete in both the shot put and the discus. Six runners and jumper travel further south for the Georgia Tech Invitational. Joe Strawder opens the evening at the George C. Griffin Track at 6 p.m. in the men's long jump. Other students-athletes to run during the two-day event include Matthew Graham, Terah Cheatham, Mary Cate Quiett, Tonderai Tomu, Lindsey Holden and Kelcie Daniels. Sticking a little bit closer to home, several student-athletes make the short journey to the South Side for the Chicago Penultimate on May 15. The first event is scheduled for 2 p.m. Live results will be offered for both the Georgia Tech Invitational and the Cardinal Twilight.
