Houston Sweeps Track & Field Championships



CHICAGO – The Blue Demon women’s track & field squad completed the three-day Conference USA Outdoor Championships on Saturday at the University of Houston.  The Houston Cougars won the team title at their home facility, the Carl Lewis/Tom Tellez Track & Field Complex.

 

The UH women recorded 137 points, while the DePaul squad earned 22 points to take the 13th spot in the meet.

 

Marlene Key led the Blue Demons on the final day, notching a sixth place finish in the 5000 meter run.  Key covered the distance in 17:35.92, followed by teammate Emily Prettyman who ranked 26th with a 19:50.33 finish.

 

The 4x100 meter relay squad of Mary Hodges, Erica Scott, LaShunta Sanders, and Marissa Petersen posted a season best 47.91 time to take 10th place.  First place TCU crossed just ahead in 44.59.

 

Petersen, Sanders, Scott, and Courtney Grand Pre marked a 3:49.25 finish in the 4x400 meter relay for a season best performance.  The efforts landed the group in ninth place for the event.

 

In the field, four Blue Demons took part in the shot put, grabbing the 10th, 12th, 14th, and 15th spots.

 

Erika Lockhart led the throwers with a season and career best toss of 12.41m (40’08.75”).  Jeana LeRoy made a launch of 12.13m (39’09.75”).  Jamie Holifield posted a mark of 11.85m (38’10.50”), while Keri Gavin’s throw landed 10.93m (35’10.50”).

 

The Blue Demons competed at the C-USA Championships for the final time this past weekend as DePaul will enter the BIG EAST conference next season.
