Brad Millar Earns NCAA Regional Qualifying Mark at Last Chance Meet

LOUISVILLE, Ky. Brad Millar picked up his ninth and final NCAA regional qualifying mark at the Cardinal Twilight, while competing members of the DePaul men’s and women’s track and field team ended their season on a good note, posting strong performances.  Millar will continue on to the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship en route to his quest for his first NCAA Championship berth.

Millar, a junior out of Port Elgin, Ontario, nearly set a new personal record with a throw of 64.56m.  His current PR stands at 64.79m, and was set earlier this season at the Sun Angel Track Classic.  Millar has satisfied the regional qualifying standard of 56.80m during every competition this season.

In the women’s throws Alanna Kovacs competed in both the javelin and discus throws.  In the discus she recorded a throw of 43.68m for sixth place, while launching a throw of 37.13m in the javelin.  Kovacs ends her freshman season with one NCAA regional qualifying mark in the javelin, while posting season-best throw in the discus of 44.49m

Matthew Graham set a new personal-record in the 3,000m steeplechase.  His time of 9:13.50 landed him in third place.  On the women’s side, Terah Cheatham placed third after clocking a time of 11:28.35.

Joe Strawder landed a triple jump of 14.99m, just one one-hundereath of a meter shy of the regional standard of 15.00m.  Strawder has surpassed the 15.00m mark twice this year, with a season-best jump of 15.18m.  In the long jump, the junior posted a distance of 7.15m to place third.

Senior Stephanie Williams took her final strides, placing fifth in the 200m with a time of 24.64 and sixth in the 100m after clocking a 12.05.  Williams ends her career as a Blue Demon with school records in the indoor 60m and 200m, and outdoor records in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay.

In the 400m hurdles, Patrick Smith crossed the finish line at the 53.11 mark for second place.  Felt finished just behind him in fourth place with a time of 53.51.

Rounding out the day’s performances, Mary Cate Quiett logged an 800m time of 2:16.14 for fifth place.

Regional qualifiers return to action on May 29-30, when they travel back to Louisville for the 2009 NCAA Mideast Regional Championship.
