Blue Demons Sweep the 800m to Cap Off Regular Season

CHICAGO – The DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams concluded their regular season today at the Chicago Penultimate.  Toni Salvatore and Max Clink swept the 800m, and Idia Omogiate took the top spot in the 400m.

Salvatore was the first student-athlete to reach the finish line in the 800m for the second time this season.  The sophomore recorded a time of 2:15.84, while teammate Kelly Pickering placed fourth behind a time of 2:20.07.

In the men’s 800m, Clink subtracted nearly a second off of his personal-best time in his winning run.  His official time was 1:53.60.  Tyler Schmitt also competed in the half-mile, and recorded a time of 1:59.08.

Omogiate tallied DePaul’s third win of the day, completing the lap around the 400m track in a time of 58.25.  Although the freshman has plenty of experience with the distance -- she holds the DePaul 4x400m relay record – today was the first time she had raced the 400m individually.

Laura Wilson finished just behind Omogiate in second place with a personal-record time of 1:01.30.  In the men’s 400m, senior Gilbert Lifton got set in the blocks for the final time.  He finished in sixth place with a time of 51.81.  He continued in the javelin and bettered his career-best performance by over three meters.

Brittany Lewis had a career day in the 100m.  After setting a new personal best in the prelimary race with a time of 12.84, she ran even faster in the finals.  Her time of 12.75 put the sophomore in fourth place.

Greg Udzielak concluded his senior season with his first sub-four minute time in the 1,500m.  His time of 3:59.89 placed him in fifth overall.  In the women’s race, Courtney Avvampato was the first to cross the finish line for DePaul after clocking a time of 4:58.06.

Lewis continued her day in the 200m, and finished in fifth after clocking a 26.93.  Omogiate placed just ahead of her in the third behind a time of 25.77.

In the men’s 200m, Cameron Bretl concluded his first season in a Blue Demon uniform with a new personal best.  The freshman posted a time of 23.33.

The Chicago Penultimate concludes the regular season for DePaul.  Select members of the squad will continue in postseason action on May 28-29 for the NCAA Championship Preliminary Rounds in Austin, Texas.
