Three More Student-Athletes Added to the Roster
CHICAGO DePaul University’s track and field and cross country coach Pat Savage announced the signing of three student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent. Aforo Okraku, Idia Omogiate, and Zak Koronkiewicz are all are slated to join the eight other NLI signees this fall.
The Blue Demons now add three Illinois State Meet qualifiers to its already impressive roster for the 2009-10 season. In addition, previous signee Lindsey Holden enters this weekend’s state meet as the No. 1 seed in the 100m and 200m dash, and ranks in the top-five in the 400m.
Okraku has been a dominate force for the Mustangs all season long, and will be competing at the Illinois State High School State Meet on Sat., May 23. She runs both cross country and track at Morgan Park, but plans to focus on sprints for DePaul.
Coach Dave Dopek on Okraku: “Aforo will add further depth to our young core of female sprinters. We will look to her to help establish a strong team atmosphere to the women’s relays, as well as in open sprints”
Omogiate joins fellow NLI signees Okraku and Holden at the State Championship this weekend, running in 100m dash. Her contributions to the Blue Demon squad next season will include open sprints, relays, and the long jump.
Coach Dopek on Omogiate: “Idia’s competive nature and strong work ethic will serve her well as she strives to be one of the best sprinters in the BIG EAST Conference. We look forward to having her represent DePaul.”
High School: Evergreen Park Community HS
During his senior year of high school, Koronkewicz placed 30th at the Illinois State Class AA Cross Country Championships. At the state meet, he maintained a 5:16 mile pace to cross the finish line at the 15:46 mark.
Coach Savage on Koronkiewicz: “Zak is a well-rounded three-sport athlete who will make an immediate impact on our program. His a fierce competitor, and will only make our group of distance runners stronger.”
