CHICAGO – DePaul junior Brian Mada will be on the big stage Friday evening as he competes in the triple jump at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Mada is one of 24 competitors to qualify for the national championship meet with the triple jump scheduled for a 5:40 p.m. PT start on Friday.

Mada qualified for Eugene on May 26 by finishing among the top 12 at the NCAA West Preliminaries. He took 10th place among the 48 qualifiers with a distance of 15.63 meters. The three-time BIG EAST triple jump champion is the first DePaul jumper to reach the NCAA Championship meet since long jump All-American Chris Stafford in 1998.

The junior holds the school record in the triple jump with a mark of 15.74 meters set at the Illinois Twilight earlier this season. During the outdoor season, he claimed BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week honors three times and earned All-BIG EAST recognition following the conference’s outdoor championships.

The triple jump is scheduled for a 5:40 p.m. PT start at Hayward Field. The 24 competitors will have three jumps with the top nine advancing to the finals to decide the national champion.
