Two Blue Demons Set to Compete at USA Junior Outdoor Championships

CHICAGO – DePaul student-athletes Anthony Becknek and Carrie Moffett will represent DePaul University at the 2004 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  Becknek will compete in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase while Moffett is set for the women’s 5,000 meters.  The three-day meet starts on Friday and takes place at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

The top two qualifiers in each event this weekend move on to the IAAF World Junior Championships in Italy later this summer.  DePaul head coach Gordon Thomson will be a member of the men’s coaching staff for the United States.  The world meet takes place in Grosseto, Italy, July 13-18 for athletes age 19 and under.
 
Becknek will run in the steeplechase on Sunday at 6:03 p.m.  During his freshman campaign with the Blue Demons, he posted a season-best time of 9:32.40 in the event at the Conference USA Championships.

Moffett is set to compete on Friday evening in the women’s 5,000 meters.  The event starts at 7:36 p.m.  She opened the 2004 outdoor season with a season-best time of 17:37.07 in the 5,000-meter run at the Raleigh Relays.
