Track and Field, Cross Country Add 12 Newcomers to 2014-15 Squad
Aug. 12, 2014
CHICAGO -- DePaul head cross country and track and field head coach Dave Dopek has announced the signings of 12 incoming student athletes who will look to help the Blue Demons ride the momentum they built following their most successful campaign in school history.
Seven will join the squad on the men's side, while Dopek signed five for the women's team.
"I am very excited about the 2014-15 additions to our men's program," Dopek said. "They will bring a wealth of talent and high level championship experience to a men's team that is coming off of one of its most successful seasons. There are several state champion, team champion and high school All-American accolades that will arrive with this group in the fall.
"As the 2014-15 women's track & field /cross country programs look to improve on last year's performances at the Big East Conference meet, this year's incoming student-athletes figure to be major contributors right away. Many of them are prepared to have an immediate impact on the team as we prepare for this upcoming season."
During last year's indoor season, the men took third at the BIG EAST Championships before placing second at the Outdoor Championship last May. The women placed fifth in the indoor meet and took fourth on the outdoor track. Both cross country teams placed eighth at last year's BIG EAST Championships.
"The addition of fellow Nevadans, Ivy Dobson (No. 18 nationally in the 200) and Sebastian Feyersinger (No. 28 nationally in the 400) to our young talented team should get the Blue Demon track and field family excited about the future," Dopek said. "Along with these two young men from Nevada, we will see an influx of local talent coming to DePaul in the fall, including Jarvis Hill (York), Chris Korabik (St. Ignatius), Jeremy Lozano (Lake Park), Jake Pecorin (Naperville North) and James Ryan (Lyons Township). We look forward to these young men from the Chicagoland area to bring great energy and focus to our cross country/track & field programs.
"On the women's side, we have a pair of very talented young ladies from Ontario, Canada, Bailey Dell (Javelin) and Katerina Cirone (Steeplechase), that will be looking to join forces with our regionally-recruited young ladies, Simone Carr (Bloomingdale, Ill.), Karrina Smith (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Ellen Carman (Iowa City, Iowa), to provide a significant boost to our young and talented women's program."
The 2014 cross country season begins Aug. 29 at the NIU Huskie Open in DeKalb, Ill. The 2014-15 track and field campaign kicks off in December.
