CHICAGO - DePaul track and field coach Dave Dopek is fired up for the upcoming indoor track and field season.

"There's a lot of continuity in what we're doing," Dopek said. "The meets in the Midwest, we know the quality of the competition and how we match up with them.

"It's fortunate that so many of the Midwest meets will be run on 300-meter tracks. It allows you to go faster. The BIG EAST Indoor Championships will be run on a 300m track at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

"We'll be competing there in the Spire Institute Midwest Open three weeks before the BIG EAST meet, and that will give us a chance to check everything out and be as prepared as possible for conference."

The indoor track season opens on Dec. 7th when the Blue Demons compete in the Blue and Gold Invitational at Notre Dame. After winter break, DePaul heads to the Jan. 12 Badger Classic in Madison, Wis.

A week later is the Spire Institute Midwest Open, and that is followed by the Feb. 1-2 Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame. On Feb. 8-9, the Blue Demons participate in the Iowa State Classic at Ames, Iowa.

That will be the final tune-up for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships set for Feb. 16-17 at the Spire Institute.

Next up is the Alex Wilson Invitational March 1-2 at Notre Dame. The final event of the indoor season is the NCAA Indoor Championships March 8-9 at Fayetteville, Ark.

Dopek is looking for Ashley Holden, Loreal Curtis and Ayesha Ewing to head up the women's team while Tonderai Tomu, Matt Babicz, Adam Kovacs and the distance runners will lead the men's team.

"We have a lot of talent in our program that needs to be coached, managed and motivated," Dopek said. "Our coaching staff is going to be quite happy if this team develops as we think it will."
