ALLENDALE, Mich.- Senior Jamie Holifield broke her own DePaul record in the women’s indoor weight throw at Friday’s Grand Valley State Holiday Open.  A select group of Blue Demon throwers represented the men’s and women’s track and field teams in the meet at the GVSU Fieldhouse.

Holifield posted a weight throw of 18.49m to win the event.  Her mark surpasses the previous record of 17.60m that she set December 2 at the Notre Dame Blue and Gold Invitational.  Prior to that performance, Montia Gardner’s DePaul record of 16.90m stood since 2001.  Junior Tammy Burris finished third in the event with a distance of 15.81m.  Like Holifield, she eclipsed the BIG EAST qualifying mark of 15.25m for the second consecutive meet.

Freshman Brad Millar reached a BIG EAST qualifying standard for the second time this season as he finished eighth in the men’s weight throw.  His performance of 15.68m broke through the qualifying distance of 14.97m.

The men’s throwing events also saw freshman Curtis Hoag take third place in the shot put with a throw of 14.54m.

No team scores were kept for the meet that included talent from Aquinas College, Northwood, Saginaw Valley State, St. Francis, Ferris State University, and Grand Valley State.

The Blue Demons’ indoor season resumes January 13 at the Division I Invitational in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
