Blue Demons Set for BIG EAST Cross Country Championships

A Pack of Top Performances Could Lead Men's Team to Best Conference Finish

2012-13 (Junior)
Cross Country: Finished 8th at the Northern Illinois XC Open and tenth at the Elmhurst College Early Bird Invitational. Scored at seven events, including the NCAA Midwest Regional.

2011-12 (Freshman)
Cross Country: Finished 27th at the UIC Home Opener...scored at two events, including NCAA Midwest Regional.

Indoor: Finished fourth in the 3,000m run at the Notre Dame Invitational with a time of 8:51.54...ran a career-best time of 8:41.19 at the Iowa State Classic.

Outdoor: Finished third in the 5,000m run at the DePaul Invitational and Purdue Open...ran a career-best time of 15:12.4 while finishing sixth at the Chicagoland Championships.

High School: Attended West Leyden High School in Franklin Park, Ill., where he was named all-conference...also qualified for sectionals.

Personal: Son of Miguel and Ivelisse Mercado...has two brothers, Erik Alvarez and Miguel Mercado, and one sister, Jayleen Mercado.
