Oct. 12, 2012
PEORIA, Ill. – Up against some of the region’s best competition at the Bradley Classic, DePaul cross country came away with several solid finishes on Friday afternoon including a ninth-place showing by junior Eddie McDaniel to lead the Blue Demons.
In the men’s 8K race, McDaniel added another top-10 finish to his already-successful 2012 campaign. His time of 24:43 came in at just over 30 seconds behind the race’s winner, Jim Riddle of Illinois.
The race was the Blue Demons’ third 8K of the season and marked McDaniel’s best finish. He had previously registered times of 25:06 (National Cross Country Championships) and 25:16.4 (UW-Parkside Invitational) in 8K challenges.
With McDaniel leading the Blue Demons, the DePaul men’s squad finished in seventh overall as a team. Southern Illinois finished in first ahead of Illinois, Marquette, Northern Illinois, Eastern Illinois, and Western Illinois.
Herald Alvarez was the Blue Demons’ second finisher in the race as he came in 29th with a time of 25:13—also his best 8K time of the year. Other point-getters for DePaul were Zak Koronkiewicz (25:50), Max Clink (25:58), and Ian Sanchez (26:09).
On the women’s side, sophomore Jacqueline Kasal was once again the top Blue Demon finisher. Kasal finished the women’s 6K—DePaul’s first of the year—in a time of 22:22. Behind Kasal, DePaul’s remaining point-getters were Molly Shirioshi, Taylor Hines, Hannah Pulliam, and Danielle Hernando
The Bradley Classic served as DePaul’s final meet before the 2012 BIG EAST Conference Cross Country Championships which is set for Oct. 26 at Van Cortlandt Park, hosted by St. John’s.
