Both the men's and women's cross country teams placed seventh at the Hawkeye Open. Carrie Moffet paced the women, while Kyle Ferry and Clayton Smith were the men's top finishers.

IOWA CITY, IA – The men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2005 season at the Iowa Hawkeye Open on the Ashton Cross Country course on Friday. Both teams finished in seventh place and meet host Iowa captured both the men's and women's titles.
Junior captain Carrie Moffet paced the women, finishing the 3K course in 11:42. Maureen Kuhta followed one step behind, crossing the finish in 11:43 and in 38th place.
The top two men's finishers also crossed the finish together, Kyle Ferry and Clayton Smith both completed the 6K course in 22:01. The tandem took 48th and 49th place.
The University of Iowa's men team won the team title followed by Illinois, Wayne State, Loyola-Chicago, Eastern Illinois, Northern Iowa and DePaul. Iowa's Eric MacTaggart took the individual men's crown in a winning time of 18:18.
Iowa's women also captured the women's title and were followed by Northern Iowa, Illinois, Eastern Illinois, Wayne State, Loyola-Chicago and DePaul. Iowa's Meghan Armstrong was the crowned the women's champion after finishing the course in 10:25.
The Blue Demons will travel to West Lafayette, Indiana next weekend to run in the Great American Legends. The meet is hosted by Purdue University.
